The invitation

A blue mug by the sink counts. So does a notebook that's been sitting there all week. Put it near the window and see what happens to the color. Curious what everyone finds within arm's reach.

First step

  1. Pick a blue object within reach and take a photo of it in the light you have.
  2. Move a little closer or change your angle until the blue looks interesting to you.
  3. Add the photo with a line about the color: inky, washed out, almost purple, or something else entirely.

No blue mug here, so I used my notebook. Beside the window it looked bright blue; a hand's width back and it was nearly navy. I hadn't expected such a small move to matter.

This mug usually lives by the sink. Put it beside the plant for the photo and suddenly the sunny side looked almost purple. Same old mug, much better light.

Is that where the mug normally sits, or did you move it for the photo?

Mila Chen

Moved it from the sink! Then nudged it nearer the window so the blue caught more light.
